Strawberry Shortcake

Dear Brother Joe:

I’m so happy you had another good birthday! You haven’t changed hardly at all in 14 years. You look so handsome! And you’re so very well mannered when company comes over, sharing your food and all. I know it takes a good deal of restraint. What did you have for dinner? Did you get any extra-special treats?

My sister and I (along with 3 little helpers) went to pick strawberries yesterday morning. This was my first strawberry picking in years and years. The berries were so good, nice, sized and perfectly ripe. We picked probably close to 40 pounds. The boys were quite good pickers and didn’t eat too many. I think you would have liked the Lassie collie dog they had at the farm.

We came back to J’s house to clean and freeze berries. I ran to Meijer to get freezer bags, never checking how I looked (Strawberry-stained old white T-shirt, as if I just finished butchering).

Last night I made a batch of biscuits and had a bowl of shortcake for dinner. Too bad you weren’t here to have some, too.

Tell Royce to say hey to all the knitters at the KK tonight!

About snowandroyce

Snow and Royce are friends. For a long time, Snow lived in a Southern state quite near Royce. Then Snow moved back home to the Northern land of her birth. They decided to start blogging just to keep in touch because email, Facebook, and other forms of digital communication just aren't quite enough. Royce has a dog named Joe. She likes miniatures, knitting, her grandchildren, vodka, and gadgets in no particular order. Snow likes knitting, miniatures, and would like to be a voracious reader, if only she could stay awake.
